The magazine will be bimonthly in winter and autumn and come out monthly with bumper editions in spring and summer.

The current edition gives lots of tips on making your garden a haven for wildlife, tells you why winter is the time for planting, and extols the virtues of trees and other bird-friendly plants.

Free copies are available at the till and you can also read articles on our website at www.katiesgarden.co.uk/the-flourishing-garden

Tree Fortnight!

14/1/2025

Picture
Picture

It's not a garden without a tree or two, and we are celebrating these glorious plants with our special
Tree Fortnight which runs this Saturday till Sunday 2nd February!

During the event enjoy 15% off all potted ornamental and fruit trees*, and get all bareroot fruit trees for just £25 each!

Look out for a few bargains from our older stock too.

Grow-your-own, provide wildlife habitat, feed the birds, bees and butterflies, or glory in your own miniature Sakura season. We've even got a few suitable for growing in containers!
Trees can completely transform a garden, their size and longevity giving the garden a sense of permanence and timelessness.

Most need little maintenance once established but it is important to get off on the right foot.

Click though to our Garden Tips page for planting and aftercare advice, and to find out about rootstocks, pollinator partners, and what it means if a tree is 'bareroot' or 'pot-grown'.
GARDEN TIPS

Why plant now, instead of waiting for a nice warm summer day?

At the moment the trees are 'dormant'. They are not growing new leaves, fruits, flowers or berries which means their root systems can concentrate all their energies into settling into new surroundings, leading to stronger, healthier plants in the short- and long-term.

The cooler, wetter weather also helps them establish, with less care and effort needed from you in those crucial early weeks.
* 15% discount excludes sale trees.

Katie's Garden at Nacton Christmas tree & crib festival!

6/12/2024

Picture
Get inspired by our Katie's Garden tree!

The Nacton Christmas tree & crib festival opens in the beautiful setting of St Martin's Church (next to Orwell Park School) tomorrow, featuring a tree decorated by us, among many other displays.

The festival runs every day 10am - 3pm until Sunday 15th December.

Entry is by donation, with proceeds split between the church and St Elizabeth Hospice.

Our tree is decked out in red and white, with many of the decorations completely natural.

Dried flowers used include Hydrangeas, Poppies, Alliums, Teasel, Miscanthus grass and for the garlands, Physalis, also know as cape gooseberry and paper lantern.

We added fresh flowers from Fatsia and Skimmia and finished off our 5ft 'non-drop' Nordmann Fir tree with wreath ribbons and homemade bunting to wish everyone a Happy Christmas!

Helping Hands organiser Jill Farmer said:

"If you would also like to pop a Christmas card into the bag that’s fabulous but please do not add your address or telephone numbers, just your first name is good.

"We are asking for items to be popped into bags as so much easier to carry. Items inside bags can be wrapped if you like but not essential , but if wrapping add a little note so we are aware what the wrapped presents contains. Please mark the envelope Man or Woman.

"If you only wish to send one item in that’s fantastic too and can be put in bags to make a up a gift.

"Thank you for your kindness and support and generosity in making a friend feel special and included!"

Please note: no razors or sharp objects, or objects that are glass or contain glass. All edible items must be in date or best before and showing on packaging.

Please bring in your presents by Sunday 15th December.
