Shrubs

Shrubs are an excellent way to give your borders structure, whilst often providing a great floral display.  Most require little attention, and in the case of evergreens, will provide year-round interest.

Generally, pruning – if needed - should be carried out after flowering, unless berries are also produced. Many have very attractive flowers, some are scented, while others provide interest through their foliage or stems.

Our shrubs are usually available in 3 litre pots with prices starting from £9.99. Some specimens are also grown in larger pots for those customers looking for a more instant effect.

We try to offer something for everyone in our shrub range, whether you want something small for a pot, large for privacy and screening, something for structure or something for flowers.

EVERGREENS: Evergreens we stock include Photinia ‘Red Robin’ - much prized for the red shades of its young leaves - Abelia, Berberis, Cotoneaster, Cordyline, Eucalyptus, Laurus (bay), Leptospermum, Osmanthus, Phormium, Pittosporum and Pyracantha (firethorn).

DECIDUOUS: Our deciduous shrubs include colourful Berberis, Cornus (dogwood), Forsythia, Hibiscus, Philadelphus, Physocarpus, Prunus (cherry), Ribes (flowering currant), Sambucus, Spiraea, several species of Viburnum and Weigela.

SHADE: Shade-tolerant choices include Aucuba, Buxus (common box), Euonymus, Fatsia, Ilex (holly), Mahonia, Sarcocca, Skimmia and Viburnum tinus.

SANDY SOILS: Among those good for light soils and drought-like conditions are the evergreen Ceanothus (Californian lilac), Choisya (Mexican orange blossom), Cistus (rock rose), Convulvulus, Coprosma, Eleagnus, Escallonia, Hebe, lavender and rosemary; and the deciduous Buddleia, Caryopteris, Ceratostigma (shrubby plumbago), Cytisus (broom), Hydrangea, Lavatera and Potentilla.

This list is by no means exhaustive – to see our full range you will have to come and visit us! Please also bear in mind that not all plants will be in stock at any one time –if there is a variety you particularly want, please phone or email to check beforehand.
