Better known as Portugal laurel. Also known as Myritfolia. A neater version of the more common lusitanica. Glossy dark-green leaves on dark red stems. Fragrant white flowers in summer, followed by berries.
Dense growth for a very full hedge. Evergreen - keeping leaves year-round. Easy to grow. Can go up to 5m if required.
Suitable for sun or shade, including dry shade.
These are premium specimens which are already a good size, so fewer plants will be needed for a full effect. Current height is apx 100-125cm.
Use for privacy, for windbreaks, for wildlife and to create interest and 'rooms' in your garden.
SPACING: We would recommend 1 plant per metre, but planting density is largely dependent on how quick a result you would like.
Make sure you leave enough space for the eventual depth of the hedge - do not plant right up against boundaries!
PLANTING ADVICE: The hessian wrapped around the rootballs should be left on when planted.
Do not plant when soil is frozen or waterlogged. Make sure plants are well watered prior to planting. Application of rootbuilders such as mycorrhizal fungi or bonemeal can help plants establish.
Water hedging plants during dry spells for the first couple of years. Lightly clip plants all the way around (top and all sides) two or three times a year to encourage bushy growth.
Keep the area around them free of weeds, grass and other plants for the first year or so - you do not want them competing for nutrients.

Due to Plant Health regulations we are unable to post bulbs and plants. Orders will be fulfilled using our own drivers and transport. Any orders placed for outside the specified delivery area will be cancelled and monies refunded.
All orders can be collected from Katie’s Garden Plant Centre (year-round) and Bridge Farm Plants (March-October only) free of charge – please select option at checkout. Orders cannot be collected from other outlets.
