The 12th Designer Bed installation is 'Nature's Medicine Cabinet: The Medicinal Garden' by Katie's Garden's resident designer, Anna Peachey, of Anna Peachey Gardens.
|
Installed in early April 2025, this garden is expected to evolve hugely over the months it is in place.
In the past the plants we chose to use in our gardens would have been based on their usefulness for either food of their healing properties, rather than for ornamental value.
The design is centred around a spiralling path of low-growing thyme leading to a relaxing chair, the perfect spot for sipping on a homemade medicinal tea, with a chamomile lawn to rest tired feet on. The chair is surrounded by a copper beech hedge with blackberries entwined throughout to supply a tasty snack. The trees in the garden provide a cocooning space to enjoy and recuperate in.
Early colour comes from Calendula officinalis, also known as English or Pot Marigold, accompanied by numerous evergreen ground cover plants filling out much of the space.
